  1. Marissa Mayer defends using her AI assistant Dazzle to describe her daughter

Marissa Mayer said her daughter Marielle's teacher asked for three bullet points on what made the girl special for a fourth-grade birthday slide, and that she pasted the request into Dazzle, her startup's camera-roll-based AI assistant. Dazzle returned that her daughter is empathetic, creative and an animal lover. In a post on X, Mayer said she used the early prototype to test its limits, and that it distinguished Marielle from her identical twin sister Sylvana and surfaced forgotten kindergarten projects such as the "snake denomizer" and the "sandcat playground"; she combined those suggestions with a few of her own. She noted Dazzle launched in late September and reads a user's camera roll to answer questions and make suggestions. Users on X criticised her for handing the question to an AI. A separate commentary piece called the description vague, like a generic horoscope that could apply to many 10-year-olds, and argued that delegating child-rearing to computers sidelines meaningful human relationships.

  2. Dazzle Uses Camera Photos as AI Context

Marissa Mayer’s startup Dazzle is building a consumer AI assistant for non-technical users. The company says users can start with a photo and receive suggestions for everyday tasks, including purchases, repairs and recipes; it can also buy with approval and schedule repairs. Dazzle describes camera-roll photos as personal context, avoiding the broad access to texts, emails and documents sought by many AI agents. Mayer also told The New York Times that she used Dazzle to generate three descriptions of her daughter for her 10th-birthday celebration.

  3. Dazzle wants to turn your camera roll into a personal AI assistant

Dazzle is betting that the next generation of personal AI should already know a lot about you before you ask anything. According to a Bloomberg Tech interview, the startup uses photos and screenshots in a user's camera roll to infer their interests, relationships, travel and belongings, then helps take actions such as finding a product, arranging a repair, planning activities or adding an event to a calendar. CEO Marissa Mayer discussed the approach with Ed Ludlow.
