  1. DeepSeek merges Harness, Web, App and Platform teams into a product department

Citing a report by The Paper, Chinese outlets say DeepSeek has merged its Harness team with its Web, App and Platform teams into a single “product department” responsible for all of the company's product, design and R&D work, with former Harness lead Cui Tianyi heading it; Cui confirmed the report to The Paper. DeepSeek Harness is a TypeScript agent runtime framework DeepSeek open-sourced in August 2026 under the MIT license, built around an “everything is a plugin” design in which models, tools, sessions, sandboxes, storage and the agent loop are all supplied through the Cordis plugin system; its v0.2 desktop preview shipped on September 29 with ready-to-use macOS and Windows installers. The report also says the new department is hiring product designers and designers.

  2. Mathematician Alex Gerko's AI-driven XTX lifts him to No. 8 on UK rich list

Alex Gerko, a 46-year-old mathematician, ranks eighth on the Sunday Times 2026 UK rich list with £16.006bn (about RMB 141.7bn), up £7.261bn from 2025, according to reports citing the list. He owns roughly 75% of XTX Markets, the quantitative market maker he founded in 2015, which uses machine learning to forecast prices and quote liquidity directly to clients; XTX's site says its research cluster has more than 25,000 GPUs, covers over 53,000 instruments across 35 countries, and handles about $250bn in daily trading volume. Its three main UK entities reported combined after-tax profit of about £1.71bn in 2025, but public materials do not break out AI's separate profit contribution, and Gerko's gains largely reflect equity valuation.

  3. Nvidia-backed Firmus pulls Australian IPO as AI valuation worries grow

Firmus, the Nvidia-backed Australian AI data-centre company, withdrew its IPO on 9 October after failing to attract enough institutional demand, despite plans to raise about US$5.5 billion at a roughly US$30.6 billion valuation. The offer price was cut from A$11 to A$8.25 a share and still fell short, ending bookbuilding early; its US$2 billion equity round had drawn Nvidia, Coatue, Blackstone and Jane Street, and OpenAI signed up for capacity at two Malaysian projects. Reports say some investors pulled orders after partner CDC said a planned up-to-1.6GW build would not proceed, while Firmus has only two data centres operating and about 46MW of live capacity.
