   China's AI otome games stall as token costs and weak gameplay bite

   Two venture-backed AI otome games — Muyan Zhiyu's Xingmian and Infinite Valley — opened second beta tests almost simultaneously last month, while Natural Selection's EVE remains the only one officially launched. The piece argues the genre's core problem is economics: these titles call external models such as Zhipu AI, DeepSeek and ChatGPT, and free-form chat is billed per token, so EVE capped free chat at 10 rounds a day with monthly cards from 68 yuan, and its rating fell to 2.2 shortly after launch. To cut costs, several titles are downplaying AI chat and returning to scripted stories and gacha, where they struggle against established otome hits like Love and Deepspace.
