  1. Googlebooks brings Android and Gemini to premium laptops

TechRadar reports that Google recently launched Googlebooks as a premium laptop line, with the Acer Googlebook 14 running a new Android-based operating system, smartphone integration and Gemini AI. Its UK starting price of £999 is above the £599 MacBook Neo, while TechRadar’s hands-on test found phone connections more complicated than expected and full integration dependent on Android 17. Analysts say Googlebooks must combine Android continuity with competitive pricing and specialist applications to appeal to students leaving school-issued Chromebooks.

  2. Google Play adds Ask Play app comparison and in-Gemini install links

Google announced several Play Store discovery updates: Ask Play results now include a compare option that evaluates suggested apps across details such as monetization model and connectivity, rolling out starting today. A feature called "Play in Gemini" will surface app suggestions inside Gemini conversations, with rich Play Store links for direct installs and deep links into in-app content coming soon. Google did not give a release date for Play in Gemini, saying only that it will reach all Gemini users soon. The company is also expanding Sports Topic Pages to soccer leagues including MLS, the Premier League, the Champions League, La Liga and Liga MX starting October 14, and making the Play Store adapt to car screens, a 3D space on Android XR, and large-screen apps on Googlebooks.
