Google launches $180 Fitbit Edge with AI health coaching

Google announced the Fitbit Edge on October 12, a $179.99 fitness tracker positioned between the screenless Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch 5; it is on pre-order now and ships October 27, with a Stephen Curry special edition at $219.99. Google says the 11.5mm tracker has its largest and brightest tracker display, 46% more viewing area than earlier Fitbits, and includes built-in GPS, an ECG and a skin temperature sensor; it calls the Edge its first fitness tracker with a replaceable battery, and claims up to seven days of battery life, though ZDNET notes that falls to about two days with the always-on display enabled. Buyers get three months of Google Health Premium, which unlocks an AI health coach before requiring a paid plan, and later this month Premium users will get Health Guardian for blood pressure trends and insulin resistance, which Google says is for general wellness rather than diagnosis.
