  1. Meta releases Muse Spark Open, an 816B open-weight multimodal model

Meta released Muse Spark Open on October 15, an open-weight multimodal mixture-of-experts model with roughly 816 billion total parameters and about 42 billion active per token, drawing on 256 experts per layer with 8 selected per token and accepting text, images, audio and video with a context window of up to 1 million tokens. It was trained for agentic coding and long-horizon work such as tool calling, computer use and web browsing, and the weights ship on Hugging Face in BF16 and NVFP4 (NVIDIA Blackwell) formats, with Together AI and Modal hosting it from day one; Together AI named Factory and Ollama as early-access customers. Meta's own evaluations put it at 76.4 on Terminal-Bench 2.1 with the Terminus 2 agent and 60 on DeepSWE 1.1, and the company calls it "the most capable US open-weight model to date"; Engadget notes local runs need about 1TB of unified memory, such as two 512GB M5 Ultra Mac Studios, whose pricing and ship date Apple has not announced.

  2. Factory launches OpenCompute, a self-hosted agent sandbox orchestrator

On October 14, 2026, Factory introduced OpenCompute, a self-hosted orchestrator for agent sandboxes now in private preview that runs on the customer's choice of runtime, including Kubernetes, AWS Lambda MicroVMs, EC2 and in-house platforms. It connects to the Factory backend over an outbound, TLS-secured WebSocket with no inbound firewall ports required; the Go control plane records desired and observed state in a Postgres database inside the customer's environment, uses a declarative reconciler, and splits each provider into a standalone gRPC driver with a required Core conformance profile plus optional Suspend, Snapshot and Fork profiles. Factory says its first customer went from prototype to a first sandbox running in its own data center in six weeks, and the company plans to open-source OpenCompute, including its contracts, conformance tests and driver model.

  3. Factory ships Environments, making cloud agent sandboxes generally available

Factory announced on October 12, 2026 that Environments, its reusable definition of the sandbox its Droids run on, is now generally available. An Environment bundles the repositories, tools and dependencies an agent needs, and Factory pre-builds them into portable images that are rebuilt every few hours and validated, with only successful builds promoted. The company says this removes the onboarding overhead — cloning repos, installing toolchains — so Droids can start work immediately, and it pairs with Automations, Missions and the Agent Readiness framework for parallel orchestration. Administrators keep control through Enterprise Controls, which govern reachable hosts, permitted shell commands, approval rules and available Connectors and Skills; Factory also previewed extending sandboxes to customers' own machines, clouds and tools during the week.
