- Google tests Gemini-powered Ask Google Help on its support pages
Google is testing a new Gemini-powered "Ask Google Help" assistant on some of its official support pages, labeled "Built with Gemini," turning help centers into a conversational support desk. Android Authority says the feature was first spotted by contributor AssembleDebug on Google Play support pages and has since been confirmed on the support sites for Chrome, Google Home and Nest, and Gemini Apps across desktop and mobile, with Google Play showing the most complete implementation; the assistant pulls from help documentation, links to relevant articles, asks whether users still need help and collects thumbs-up or thumbs-down feedback. The rollout is not Google-wide yet — Gmail, YouTube, Google Messages, Pixel, Google Search and Google Photos support pages did not show it — and Google repeats its usual warning that the AI can be inaccurate; in testing, at least one answer mangled help-page formatting and exposed raw image URLs.
Android Authority · 🔥 0 - Google Messages adds Gemini-powered scam detection on Android
Google announced new Android anti-fraud features on October 14, led by an opt-in Enhanced protection mode in Google Messages that will roll out in the coming weeks: with it enabled, conversations with unknown senders are sent to cloud-based Gemini models to detect a scammer's intent earlier. Google says the analysis runs in Private AI Compute, where messages stay encrypted and out of reach even for Google, while on-device Gemini Nano checks unfamiliar links before users tap them, initially on Pixel 10 and later devices, the Galaxy S26 series and the Galaxy Z Flip/Z Fold8. Other changes include automatically hiding login and payment fields in Chrome and Android WebView during screen sharing (rolling out this month on Android 15 and later), blocking apps from silently enabling call forwarding from early December with a warning for typed codes, and verified financial calls with banks such as Banco do Brasil, Itaú Unibanco and Revolut. Google says Scam Detection already flags more than 5 million suspected scam calls and texts each month, and chat-notification scam alerts will expand from Pixel phones to devices from Honor, Motorola, OPPO, OnePlus, Realme, Tecno, vivo and Xiaomi.
The Verge AI · 🔥 9 - How to use Gemini Auto Browse in Chrome: setup, tasks and limits
Google's Gemini Auto Browse lets the assistant navigate websites, fill in forms, compare prices and complete multi-step tasks in Chrome on the user's behalf, but access is limited to eligible Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers. It launched in preview for US desktop users in January 2026; Google later added Android support and expanded availability to India on Oct. 7. Per Google's documentation, US personal desktop accounts need to be 18+, run the latest Chrome on a compatible Windows, macOS or Chromebook Plus device, use English as the device language, and have Standard or Enhanced Safe Browsing enabled; Incognito, iPhone and iPad are not supported. Google lists daily request limits of up to 20 for AI Pro and up to 200 for AI Ultra, and says sensitive actions such as purchases, sending communications, changing data and submitting forms require confirmation, while warning about mistakes, unexpected purchases and prompt injection.
TechRepublic · 🔥 0 - XBOW used GPT-5.6 Sol to break Chrome's sandbox, earning a $250K Google bounty
Security research team XBOW says it used OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol and other models, plus four researchers, to build a full-chain Chrome exploit and gain full system access in six days; it estimates the same work done entirely by humans would take about six months. The three flaws were reported to Google and have been fixed, with Google paying a $250,000 bounty, and XBOW says roughly 1 billion users were potentially affected. XBOW put its compute cost at about $40,000, with AI searching Chrome source code, testing ideas, building proof-of-concept code and drafting the initial exploit, while humans set strategy, chose research directions, reviewed the agents' output and adjusted their actions.
IT之家 AI · 🔥 0 - Google Details Five Chrome Study Features, Led by Gemini Interactive Quizzes
Google outlined five Chrome features aimed at students: Gemini-powered interactive quizzes, Gemini explanations of videos and podcasts, tab groups and split view, reading mode and read aloud, and cross-device tab resume. The interactive quiz builder is the most restricted, rolling out in English on desktop in the US and India, with Google saying more regions and mobile support are planned but giving no firm date. The other tools largely build on capabilities Chrome already offers, and Google does not specify institutional eligibility or data-handling rules for school-managed accounts.
TechRepublic · 🔥 0 - WebMCP: A Standard for Websites to Expose Structured Tools to AI Agents
This article, reposted from the Agentic AI Foundation blog, describes WebMCP: developers can register named tools via document.modelContext.registerTool, giving each tool an input schema and an execute function, and the browser makes those tools available to a supported agent while the page is active; existing HTML forms can also expose tools declaratively through attributes such as toolname, tooldescription and toolparamdescription. It draws a distinction with MCP: an MCP server can offer tools when no related page is open, whereas a WebMCP tool is attached to the current document, can use the page's state and the person's session, and can be combined with MCP Apps and A2UI. The piece says experimental implementations exist — Chrome via a flag and origin trial, a Cloudflare developer preview, and Brave's testing with its Leo assistant — and that OpenAI reviews each site tool call and asks the person to confirm sensitive actions, while stressing that servers must still apply their existing access controls and input validation.
O’Reilly Radar · 🔥 0 - Google releases Gemini 4 Argon for developers and Gemini app users
Google released Gemini 4 Argon on Oct 13, making the frontier model available to developers and enterprises via the paid Gemini API in AI Studio and the Gemini platform, to Google AI Ultra subscribers in Antigravity, and to AI Ultra and Pro subscribers in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search. Google says Argon targets long-horizon work such as code migration, enterprise knowledge work and cybersecurity defense, ranking #1 on the Vals Index, claiming 77.9% on DeepSWE and citing more than 35% higher agentic code submissions in Antigravity, though its own comparison table shows it trailing Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra on some coding and terminal tests. Introductory pricing is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with cached input at 95% off, and Manus says Argon is now live on its platform.
TestingCatalog · 🔥 0 - Google open-sources ML Drift, a cross-platform GPU inference engine for on-device AI
Google's AI Edge team released ML Drift under Apache 2.0, a cross-platform on-device GPU compute engine for AI/ML inference that abstracts OpenGL ES, OpenCL, Metal and WebGPU backends and serves as the GPU acceleration engine inside LiteRT, while also being usable standalone. The release adds 5D tensor support, an extensible custom-op framework with an agent-oriented SKILL.md guide, and stage-aware optimizations for on-device LLM prefill and decode; a WebGPU backend built on Dawn extends it to Windows and Linux as a desktop preview. Google says ML Drift already runs on millions of devices powering Chrome, YouTube Shorts, Photos and Meet, with YouTube Shorts seeing up to 40% lower average frame latency, and partners including Adobe and Snap reporting up to 30% faster on-device performance — all vendor-reported figures.
