   Fragment raises $12M to keep AI agents from misdirecting company payments

   New York startup Fragment, founded by CEO Thomas Neckel and CTO and former Robinhood engineer Varun Mohan, announced a $12 million funding round co-led by FirstMark and BoxGroup, following an earlier $11 million seed round led by Stripe with BoxGroup and several tech executives participating. The company did not disclose its latest valuation. Fragment says its product lets developers embed its tool in their own software and uses double-entry bookkeeping to confirm transactions balance before money actually moves, keeping a shared record of where funds came from and went. Neckel describes Fragment as supplying "financial primitives" for AI agents to automate business workflows, and the company says it has around 50 to 60 paying customers, including corporate card startup Ramp, financial software firm BILL and digital marketplace Whop.

   Firefly raises $20M Series A for its Ember AI physical-safety platform

   Firefly Technology Inc. emerged from stealth with a $20 million Series A round to extend AI into the physical world, starting with workplace and campus safety. The round was led by Definition Capital, with BoxGroup making its third investment in Firefly and Susa Ventures, which led the seed round earlier this year, also participating, according to SiliconANGLE AI and Axios Pro reporting. Firefly's Ember Safety Management platform is designed to plug into existing cameras, radios and sensors, extract intelligence from them and coordinate a response, alongside purpose-built hardware such as wearable panic buttons, AI beacons that detect gunshots and a network gateway. The company says the platform is deployed across three campuses at Colorado's Front Range Community College, and it now aims at schools, hospitals and enterprise campuses.
