Google opens SynthID Detector website to all users globally
Google said its SynthID Detector portal at synthid.com is now available to everyone worldwide, after more than a year of limited access for journalists and other testers. The free tool checks images, video and audio for SynthID watermarks from Google, OpenAI, NVIDIA and Kakao, with Apple support "coming soon," and requires signing in with a Google, OpenAI or Apple account. Why it matters: A single cross-vendor detection page makes it easier for ordinary users to check whether media is AI-generated, though stripped watermarks and differing standards mean verification still isn't foolproof.
