| I built this with Claude, it's called zest: zest.lemoncello.studio. Designing is free, there's no account, and the static codes you download never expire. Why I work in print. QR codes cross my desk every day and after a decade of them landing on everything I'm tired of plain squares. A QR code has spare room built in (padding and error correction), so zest uses that room to push the dots toward your image's lights and darks. Your logo ends up woven into the data instead of stuck on top. Then it reads the result back, dot by dot, before it lets you download. Early on I fed it the Mona Lisa for a laugh, printed it big, and it scanned. That's when it stopped being an experiment and started being a product. How the work actually went I'm not a developer. Claude wrote the code; I set the design, the rules and the bar, and I tested everything on real phones. There was a lot of back and forth. Me trying to understand its reasoning for certain approaches and designs. Giving new direction. I have a hobbyists' understanding of programming so that certainly helped make things easier. A few other things that made it work: The hardest bits were the ones you'd expect: making a code that is mostly picture still scan, making animated codes where every frame scans and looks decent. I started in mid-August in the browser chat, copying files around and keeping everything organized by hand. It was a very complicated looking page with a dozen sections and subsections of controls. I moved to Claude Code in late September and it's been about 150 commits since.
