Shenzhen Huaqiang: memory shortage persists as AI compute demand stays strong
Shenzhen Huaqiang said on an investor interaction platform that the memory market is in a high-prosperity cycle driven by AI compute buildout, as massive new demand from AI infrastructure siphons off advanced capacity, keeping memory chip supply tight and prices rising. The company said first-half price increases were large and are expected to moderate in the second half, but the tight-supply, strong-demand situation has not changed. IT之家, citing an Omdia report, said DRAM and NAND now account for nearly 40% of PC bill-of-materials cost, up from about 15% in normal periods, and projected the PC market will shrink 24% year on year in Q4 2026 and a further 7% in 2027.
Memory price hikes and shortages feed directly into the hardware cost of AI servers and PCs, a key constraint on how far compute expansion can run.
