AI Short Dramas Shift Overseas Production Back to China
TMTPost reports that producer Fancy has moved most production work from Los Angeles back to China, leaving only investors and writers in the United States while AI generates the footage. Several Chinese short-drama companies have also reduced their US live-action teams, and Fancy estimates an AI drama can cost 30,000–50,000 yuan. The report says cheaper production is pushing content makers toward self-funded releases across multiple apps, giving platform owners greater control over distribution and revenue sharing.
The report documents a substantial shift from US live-action shoots to lower-cost AI production, while noting that platform rankings, audiences and revenue-sharing rules are becoming more important as content supply expands.

过去几年在洛杉矶拍短剧，制片人Fancy有不少时间花在安抚剧组上。
那时，她和同行常在比弗利山庄租下一栋豪宅，用5到8天拍完一部短剧。剧组里不少人参与过好莱坞电影、电视剧的制作，习惯了精细的分工和反复打磨。拍摄周期被压缩到一周，监视器里的画面在他们眼中相当粗糙，很多人难以接受这样的作品出自自己之手。Fancy往往要反复沟通，对方才肯妥协。
现在，这些沟通都省掉了。Fancy的团队里，除了在美国的投资人和编剧，其余制作环节都搬回了中国。洛杉矶的片场不需要了，画面由AI生成。
她记得，2024年、2025年是洛杉矶真人短剧拍摄最热闹的时候，每个月至少有三四十个剧组同时开工。如今，一个月能开拍8部就已经相当不错。多位消息人士告诉「定焦One」，GoodShort、九州、昆仑万维、麦芽等国内短剧公司已陆续缩减美国本地制作团队，只保留少量管理人员。
