Square launches $1,999 AI kiosk with conversational voice ordering
Square has unveiled the Square Kiosk, a 21.5-inch touchscreen ordering terminal with what the company calls an "agentic, conversational voice layer." Square says the voice layer "fully understands a seller's menu and listens and responds in real time," letting customers order the way they would naturally talk to staff, including asking questions or requesting modifications and substitutions. The pill-shaped device uses presence detection to greet customers as they approach and supports a contactless payment reader or card slot. It is available starting today at $1,999 for businesses with a Square Plus or Premium subscription, plus a $99-per-device monthly software fee.
It shows payments and point-of-sale hardware makers embedding conversational AI directly into in-person ordering, a sign that voice AI agents are moving from online support into physical stores.
