OpenCode 2.0 ships with a persistent background service
The open-source AI coding agent OpenCode 2.0 has been officially released, with its maintainers calling it a "major overhaul" that draws on the experience of millions of daily active users and aims to deliver a system that "scales to everything an agent needs." Among the many new features, the most consequential is that its background service is now actually used: OpenCode has adopted a client/server model from the start, but it was not enabled by default and only heavy users relied on it. According to OSChina, the release also lets models write scripts to orchestrate tools.
Open-source coding agents are making client/server architecture the default, which may shape how developers choose between local and background orchestration.
