Three mysterious OpenAI 'aurora' models briefly surface in API model list
GeekPark, citing Machine Heart, reported that on October 18 a developer spotted three unfamiliar names — aurora-red-alpha, aurora-green-alpha and aurora-blue-alpha — in OpenAI's API model list, each tied to a color (red, green, blue), before the entries quickly disappeared. The sighting came from a third-party mirror of OpenAI's model list rather than any official announcement, so what the models are and whether they will ever ship remains unknown. Online speculation ranged from internal checkpoints of a follow-up to GPT-6 Astra to three OpenAI image models, with no official confirmation for either claim.
The names appeared only in a third-party mirror and were removed almost immediately, and OpenAI has said nothing, so it is impossible to tell whether they reflect a real product plan or leftover internal testing.
