Kioxia unveils E1.L SSDs with up to 122.88TB for hyperscale storage
Kioxia introduced its LD4-series E1.L solid-state drives with capacities up to 122.88TB, aimed at read-intensive workloads such as AI data repositories and object storage in hyperscale data centers, using BiCS8 3D QLC NAND and NVMe 2.0e compliance while running at PCIe 4.0 x4 speeds of roughly 7.88 GB/s. The company is sampling 15.36TB and 30.72TB drives to select customers, but has not disclosed sequential/random performance, endurance, power consumption, or when the 122.88TB version or mass production will arrive. The drives will be demonstrated at the OCP Global Summit in San Jose in mid-October.
The elongated E1.L form factor lets hyperscalers pack far more flash into a thin 1U server without adding rack space, which matters for the storage tier holding AI data repositories.
