AWS Bedrock September recap: GPT-6 Astra, Claude Opus 5.5, Kimi K3 go GA
AWS's September roundup says OpenAI's Astra, Sol and Luna models are now generally available on Amazon Bedrock, including GPT-6 Astra with up to 1 million input tokens and a GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast tier with up to 6x faster inference and up to 300 tokens per second. Claude Fable 5.1, Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5.5 also arrive, alongside Moonshot AI's Kimi K3 — which the vendor calls its first open model at 2.8 trillion parameters — and xAI's Grok 4.6 and 4.7. On the platform side, AWS launched a public preview of OpenAI-powered Bedrock Managed Agents, an AgentCore runtime with lower cold-start latency and scale-to-zero sessions, an open source Strands agent harness that it says uses 28% fewer tokens, and the 2B-parameter Strands Decider 2B decision model running locally in about 115ms. Managed Knowledge Base added automatic sync scheduling and native ServiceNow, Salesforce and Zendesk connectors.
Bedrock is pulling in multiple frontier models while shifting emphasis to agent runtimes, cost and governance, a sign that enterprise AI competition is moving from raw model performance to the surrounding system and model choice.
