Hands-on: Google Playground builds playable games, but they feel samey
Google Labs launched Playground this week, a vibe-coding-style service that turns plain-language descriptions into playable in-browser games, which users can then refine conversationally and feed with uploaded photos, videos or models while the AI generates the rest of the visuals and design. A WIRED writer built three playable but mediocre games in a day and compared Playground to Meta's Horizon Create, announced in September. The writer notes that Playground throttles usage, with his allowance refreshing on October 14, and that games on the platform share strikingly similar menus, music and combat options — leaving the impression of AI slop.
It shows game-generation tools can now let non-developers produce playable prototypes fast, though sameness and usage caps still keep such consumer AI creation tools from being genuinely useful.
