How to Disable Apple Intelligence and Free Storage on iPhone and Mac

AI summary

CNET explains how to check Apple Intelligence storage usage and disable or limit related features on iPhone and Mac. The steps vary by operating system; changing the Siri language on macOS 27 reportedly freed about 4 GB for the author, while another Mac method did not work in testing.

In-depth insight

The guide may help users reclaim several gigabytes when they do not use Apple’s on-device AI features.

Apple launched iOS 27 and MacOS 27 in September, and those updates introduced a revamped Siri AI powered by Apple Intelligence to Apple devices. While the new Siri was better at most tasks in my testing, it can still take up a significant amount of on-device storage space. On my iPhone, for example, it takes up about 6.4GB of data, while it takes up about 17.9GB of space on my MacBook Neo.

If you aren’t using the new AI features, you can disable some of them, and depending on what system you’re on, you can reclaim some of that valuable storage space. That way you can stave off for a little while the dreaded pop-up that tells you your storage is full – I need that extra storage for photos of my wife, son and dog.
