GPT-6 Astra helps jailbreak an idle Kindle into a photo frame
In a blog post, a developer describes connecting an unused 10th-generation Kindle Basic over Wi-Fi so an AI coding agent on his Mac could build custom software for the device. GPT-5.6 Sol at Extra High reasoning effort could not solve storing data on the Kindle, while Fable 5.1 and Claude Opus 5.5 were both blocked after two prompts by Anthropic's cybersecurity safeguards; he then used GPT-6 Astra at High reasoning effort, adapted the open-source SpiderCat jailbreak, and built tools called KindleCTL plus a ten-photo slideshow app. He says the turning point was asking the agent to set up a persistent feedback loop for logs and remote screen captures, and stresses this was a personal experiment on his own device rather than a jailbreak guide.
This personal write-up illustrates both what coding agents can do on low-level device-modding tasks and where built-in safeguards stop them, though it is a single anecdote and not a model comparison.
