Gmail AI Inbox and Gmail Live roll out to Workspace users
Google says it has begun rolling out Gmail AI Inbox to paid Google Workspace users, after the feature was previously limited to US English users. The tool automatically pulls action items, follow-ups and deadlines from emails, and summarizes multiple related messages and long threads with background context; it works on Gmail web and mobile. Availability is currently limited to users located in the US with accounts set to English (United States), across plans including Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter/Standard/Plus, AI Pro for Education and Frontline Plus. Google also confirmed there is currently no admin control, so qualifying Workspace admins cannot disable the feature centrally in the admin console. Rapid Release domains began a staged rollout four days ago, expected to take up to 15 days, while Scheduled Release domains get it starting October 26 and may also need up to 15 days. Separately, Gmail Live voice interaction is also reaching Workspace users, with a new option to change Gmail Live voices from the chat screen.
Embedding summaries and action-item extraction in work email by default turns inbox AI from a personal opt-in into an organization-wide setting, raising questions about admin control.
