Terence Tao urges AI slowdown as OpenAI forms math advisory group
Quantum位 (QbitAI) reported that Fields medalist Terence Tao used a SAIR talk to criticize AI companies for accelerating "endlessly," saying "we must slow down" and telling model companies to stop chasing math problems, a phenomenon he called "proof indigestion." The report says Tao, previously an enthusiastic AI adopter, joined Peter Scholze, Deng Yu and other mathematicians in an open letter faulting OpenAI for treating hard problems as benchmarks. In response, OpenAI announced an Advisory Group on Mathematics and AI hosted at the Institute for Advanced Study, with members including Edward Witten, Timothy Gowers and Martin Hairer, though its statement said the group would not advise on internal mathematical progress. A commentary by 数字力场 republished by TMTPost and Huxiu added that OpenAI released 722 model-generated math manuscripts on October 6, only about 42% of which passed Lean formal verification.
The coverage shows that frontier labs' use of hard mathematics as a capability showcase has drawn public pressure from leading mathematicians and prompted OpenAI to set up an external advisory body.

不er,陶哲轩咋成AI减速派了??
是的,就是那个曾经最爱AI、逢人就安利AI工具的男人,一夜之间,漂移到了AI数学的对立面。。。
SAIR最新演讲,陶哲轩正式向模型公司开火:
