Ponytail 5 coding-agent skill claims 53% less code in self-reported benchmark
Ponytail 5 is a rebuilt version of the Ponytail skill for coding agents, distributed as the MIT-licensed GitHub repository DietrichGebert/ponytail and loaded into tools such as Claude Code and Codex as a prompt (SKILL.md or AGENTS.md). The project reports a comparison in Claude Code of the same agent with and without the skill across 39 tasks, including a real FastAPI + React repo with Opus 5.5 and five runs each: 53% less code, 41% less time, 26% lower cost and 45% fewer tokens, plus 98% of risky logic shipping with a test versus 68% without. The project also describes a reworked review command, a repo-wide audit command, and a version 5.3 status band above the prompt in Claude Code showing task cost, tokens, agent time, code reuse and whether tests passed, requiring Claude Code 2.1.290 or later. All figures are self-reported by the project and no independent replication is supplied.
The project states a principle that it writes only what a task needs while never cutting validation, error handling, security or accessibility, and its own 39-task benchmark is presented as evidence that smaller diffs did not reduce safety across six security tasks.
Makes your AI agent think like the laziest senior dev in the room. The best code is the code you never wrote.
