Ray-Ban Meta owners report recordings without wake word
Several Ray-Ban Meta owners on Reddit say their glasses saved ordinary conversations as audio recordings and text transcripts inside the Meta AI app without the “Hey Meta” wake phrase, even with “Respond without Hey Meta” disabled; one owner reported it across three pairs spanning second- and third-generation models, and other commenters described similar unexplained activations. Meta told Android Authority that “this issue has been resolved” and said people can manage, review and delete Meta AI voice logs in settings, but it did not explain what went wrong. The reports follow earlier coverage of contractors reviewing sensitive footage captured by the glasses and Meta's testing of “super sensing” glasses that could replace the recording light with always-on sensing.
The complaints highlight how opaque the line between listening, processing and recording remains on AI wearables, leaving users unsure when data is being captured.
