Apple's first touchscreen OLED MacBook may arrive this month
Apple has reportedly invited media to an all-day product launch in Los Angeles on Oct. 28, where it is expected to unveil its first OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro, carrying existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, a noticeably lighter chassis, and possibly a Dynamic Island instead of a notch, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. ZDNET says the same event could include an M6-based 14-inch MacBook Pro, an OLED iPad mini and M6 iMacs, but IT之家, citing Gurman, reports that high-end M6 development has largely stopped and M6 will be limited to the Mac mini, iMac and entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro. Gurman says Apple has shifted focus to the M7 family, optimized for AI workloads, with standard M7 expected in 2027, M7 Pro and M7 Max reaching high-end touchscreen MacBook Pros in late 2027, and M7 Ultra planned for the first half of 2028.
Apple shifting high-end chip resources from M6 to AI-optimized M7 shows how on-device AI competition is reshaping its Mac roadmap.
