Anthropic opens Singapore office, signs AI safety MOU with government
Anthropic said it opened an office in Singapore, its fifth in Asia-Pacific, and signed a memorandum of understanding with Singapore's Ministry of Digital Development and Information. The MOU was signed by Anthropic co-founder Ben Mann and Permanent Secretary Kai Fong Chng on the sidelines of Singapore International Cyber Week, covering AI safety, security and model evaluation, research on AI adoption and its impact, and responsible adoption across the public and private sectors. Anthropic said it plans technical exchanges with Singapore's AI safety and assurance institutions on model evaluation, testing standards and incident response, and to share research including its Economic Index. The announcement included no investment figure or headcount target.
The Next Web noted the announcement came with neither an investment figure nor a headcount, while OpenAI's first applied AI lab outside the US arrived in Singapore in May with S$300M, about $235M, and roughly 200 roles.
Today, we are expanding our Asia-Pacific operations by opening a new office in Singapore—our fifth in the region—and signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Singapore Ministry of Digital Development and Information. Singapore is one of our most active markets anywhere in the world, and Claude is already powering Singaporean business and government services used by millions of people every day, like GovTech Singapore, Grab, and DBS. Our growing local team will ensure these organizations and many more stay on the frontier with safe, capable AI.
“We’re committed to Singapore for the long term,” said Dale Finlay, General Manager of ASEAN at Anthropic. “Our customers here hold AI to an extremely high standard, especially when it comes to reliability and security. Having a team on the ground means we can get even closer to the organizations putting Claude to work on their hardest problems.”
