AI short-drama creators trade plagiarism accusations in China
On Oct 14, AI short-drama creator Magic Xiaomi accused Blood Oath, made by a creator named Angel, of copying her series Trust Tracker, and the two agreed to post evidence two days later on Douyin. On Oct 16 Xiaomi published a roughly 7,000-character post listing 13 side-by-side comparisons, while Angel published 28 image-and-text posts rejecting each point, saying she had never seen Xiaomi's work before the dispute and did not need to copy anyone. Both creators say their scripts are original and that they produce episodes with various AI models and agents, with visuals generated rather than filmed; according to the reports, neither side has produced conclusive evidence on whether Angel had access to the earlier work.
The reports describe the dispute as the first public plagiarism case between two AI short-drama creators, highlighting that rules for originality and copyright protection in AI-generated video remain unsettled.
