ByteDance consolidates its AI video stack, pressuring independent platforms
An industry analysis argues that ByteDance is consolidating its AI video creation pipeline, leaving independent AI video startups squeezed by a competitor that owns models, editing tools, distribution and creator incentives. Reports said Xiaoyunque and parts of Jimeng were being merged in October (ByteDance has not confirmed), after Jianying launched a one-stop workbench, Jianying Hub, plus a Jianying assistant on Sept 20 that combine scripting, storyboards, generation and editing. Startups Shengshu Technology, AiShi Technology and Yanyu Technology have been reported at valuations above $2 billion, and Flova disclosed more than $80 million in cumulative funding, yet pricing power is eroding: Shengshu set a promotional 0.09 yuan per second for Vidu Q4 Preview from Oct 8, and Xiaoyunque cut the effective member price of Seedance 2.5 720P to as low as 0.19 yuan per second from Oct 13–26. The piece says listed prices run about 1.51 yuan per second for Seedance 2.5 versus about 0.59 for Vidu Q4 Preview 720P and 0.6 for PixVerse V6 without audio, pushing independents toward overseas markets, enterprise deals and APIs outside ByteDance's ecosystem.
ByteDance's combination of models, workbench, traffic and creator incentives means independent video-tool differentiation may last only a single model cycle.
