AI Comic-Drama Costs Fall as Compute and Distribution Pressurize Returns
An analysis by Wang Zhiyuan, republished with authorization by 36Kr, says AI comic-drama production fees have fallen sharply. Soy Sauce Culture founder Huang Haonan said batch projects cost about 400 yuan per minute, while premium projects remained near 1,000 yuan per minute. The report says some labor savings have shifted toward compute and discarded AI generations, while platform revenue-sharing rules and paid traffic acquisition can leave creators with limited returns. DataEye Research counted 221,900 AI dramas and comic-dramas newly launched on Douyin in the first half of 2026, of which 1,055, or 0.48%, exceeded 100 million views; the figure measures reach, not profitability.
The analysis maps how lower production costs can shift spending toward compute and distribution while creators remain exposed to platform revenue rules, traffic costs and uneven audience demand.
