AI virtual influencers move from experiment to business
TechNews reports that AI-generated virtual creators on social platforms are turning from a novelty into a fast-expanding business, using AI-made faces, voices and videos to accumulate views on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube before funneling audiences to brand deals, paid subscriptions or paid courses. The reported production flow starts with defining a character's look and persona and making multi-angle reference images, then applying the character to existing or self-shot motion footage so AI handles face-swapping, body replacement, voice and post-production; some tools offer options for age, ethnicity, hairstyle and body shape. An industry spanning platforms, agencies and course sellers has formed around the trend, with some virtual personas appearing in beauty, fashion, fitness and entertainment work, including large brand events.
Platforms have rolled out AI labeling tools and Fanvue and OnlyFans each set rules, but the report says labels do not mean the original performer consented to being reproduced, and disputes over copying, impersonation and unclear licensing are growing.
