Why AI drama characters keep blushing: prompt clichés and limited model understanding
A commentary argues that characters in Chinese AI-generated short dramas, including "Qin Shi Huang: I Have a Huaxia All-Star Roster" and "Falling for the Borage Boy," blush constantly in ways that leave viewers unable to tell whether they are shy or angry. The author cites an advisor's explanation that scripts and storyboards are now largely generated automatically, making "face turns red" a high-frequency prompt, while models do not grasp the shyness, irritation or embarrassment behind it and simply render a red face. The piece adds that AI characters also gasp, purse their lips and cry with centered tears, and that some creators accept such flaws rather than re-roll, since each retry costs credits.
The author argues that these seemingly harmless expressions are the key reason AI characters still fail to read as human, even as AI short dramas grow more numerous and visually ambitious.
