Nicolas Cage says he refused Amazon's AI waiver for 'Spider-Noir'
Nicolas Cage said at a New York Comic Con panel that he refused to sign an AI waiver that would have let Amazon use AI on "Spider-Noir," and that he will "probably not be working with that studio again, but that's okay." He called Amazon "a very AI-friendly company, to the tune of $50 billion invested in OpenAI," adding that he is not an AI-friendly actor; Amazon completed that $50bn OpenAI investment by the end of July and disclosed it in an SEC filing, according to reports. Prime Video cancelled the eight-episode series after one season on 4 September; it had 11 Emmy nominations and drew 2.6 billion viewing minutes in its first six weeks, per Nielsen. Cage also said he wants to work with Gen Z directors such as "Backrooms" director Kane Parsons.
A high-profile actor publicly refusing an AI waiver spotlights consent and likeness disputes as Hollywood studios push generative AI into production.
