Yaskawa Electric posts record quarterly orders on AI demand, lifts profit forecast
Japanese robotics and servo-motor maker Yaskawa Electric reported on Oct. 9 that its overall order intake for the June–August 2026 quarter jumped 38% year over year to ¥185.4 billion, the fifth straight quarterly increase and a record high for any quarter, citing expanding AI and semiconductor-related demand. Motion-control orders surged 56% to ¥91.1 billion and robotics orders rose 33% to ¥776.6 billion, with orders up 60% in the Americas, 53% in Asia excluding China, 36% in Europe, 35% in China and 18% in Japan. The company raised its fiscal 2026 (March 2026–February 2027) consolidated net profit forecast to ¥47.5 billion from ¥47.0 billion, up 34.8% year over year, and its revenue target to ¥600 billion from ¥580 billion, up 10.7%. It cut its operating profit forecast to ¥57.5 billion from ¥600 billion yen-level guidance of ¥60 billion, up 21.5%, citing a core-system migration that affected production and shipments. Chairman and President Hiroshi Ogasawara said order growth exceeded expectations and that production would be accelerated from the second half through next year to improve profitability.
As one of the first major manufacturers to report earnings, Yaskawa's order figures are watched as a gauge of manufacturing capital spending linked to AI and semiconductor demand.
