Pegatron's Tong opposes Songshan Airport move for AI park, favors Danhai
Pegatron chairman Tong Tzu-hsien spoke out against a proposal by Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an to relocate Songshan Airport and turn the site into an AI industrial park, arguing the city is already too crowded to sacrifice its downtown airport. He cited Tokyo's Haneda and Seoul's Gimpo as examples of city-adjacent airports that have kept expanding, and said a private jet carrying Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang would reach the company's Taiwan headquarters in the Beitou-Shilin technology park in a short drive from Songshan. Tong instead recommended Danhai New Town, pointing to its land, the potential power supply from the nearby Kuosheng Nuclear Power Plant if restarted, and transport projects such as the Danjiang Bridge, Danbei Road and light rail that could link it to Guandu and Beitou-Shilin.
It highlights the siting debate over land, power and transport for Taiwan's AI industry, though it remains a local policy discussion with no concrete investment or construction plan yet.
