cnBeta reports that teardown images show some 2024 M4 iPad Pro units contain memory packages with a combined nominal capacity of 12GB, although the devices expose 8GB to users. The report says some features introduced with iPadOS 27 and the new Siri AI, including more natural Siri interactions and higher-precision on-device dictation, require an M4 or newer chip and at least 12GB of unified memory, leaving 8GB configurations outside those specific requirements. Apple has not explained whether the suspected additional 4GB can be enabled, whether software restrictions are involved, or whether product segmentation motivated the configuration. The report also says 8GB M4 iPad Pro units still support many Apple Intelligence features, and no evidence shows that opening the extra memory would guarantee access to the affected features.
