MIIT: China's intelligent compute hits 2,592 EFLOPS, up 146% year on year
At a State Council Information Office press conference on October 20, 2026, MIIT spokesperson Xie Cun presented the first three quarters' figures for China's information and communications sector: 5.254 million 5G base stations built, 33.4 million gigabit 10G PON ports, and 10-gigabit optical network trials in residential, factory and campus settings. As of end-September 2026, China's intelligent computing capacity reached 2,592 EFLOPS, up 146% year on year, which MIIT said strongly supports the country's AI industry. The ministry also said it will lay out 6G technology innovation in advance, strengthen next-generation network standards, and push integration of communications with artificial intelligence.
This is MIIT's latest official figure for China's intelligent computing capacity (2,592 EFLOPS, +146% year on year), a direct indicator of the country's AI compute base.
