Users say Gemini as Google Assistant is 'a disaster'

Google last month completed its migration by removing Google Assistant from all mobile devices and accounts, leaving Gemini as the default assistant. In a Reddit thread titled “Gemini as the Google Assistant is a disaster,” users report that Gemini is less reliable at everyday tasks such as making calls, setting timers and alarms, and navigating to a contact's saved address via Android Auto and Google Maps, and that it often responds with lengthy explanations instead of just acting. Some say disabling Gemini doesn't stop it from reappearing, while others can no longer find an option to switch back; these are individual user anecdotes, and the thread does not establish that every device or account behaves the same way.
