  1. RFdiffusion3 paper in Science details atom-level protein design that works in the lab

An international team from the University of Washington, the University of Oxford and Nvidia published the full design of RFdiffusion3, a generative AI system that designs proteins and nucleic acids at the single-atom level, in Science on the 16th local time; the team had open-sourced the system on December 3, 2025. RFdiffusion3 draws on the AlphaFold3 network architecture, represents each amino acid with up to 14 atoms and designs structures by directly adjusting atomic 3D coordinates, generating proteins that satisfy constraints such as specified reactive-atom positions, hydrogen-bond conditions and allowed atomic distributions. Per IT之家, RFdiffusion3 outperformed RFdiffusion2 at 37 of 41 enzyme active-site comparisons and generated structures about ten times faster, while its designed paraoxonase and peptide-cleaving enzymes completed the intended reactions in real experiments. The study's corresponding author is University of Washington professor David Baker, a 2024 Nobel chemistry laureate.

  2. Salience Labs raises $125M Series B for optical AI data center switches

Oxfordshire photonics company Salience Labs raised an oversubscribed $125M Series B led by Bullhound Capital, with AMD Ventures, Intel Capital, SBI Group, Hudson River Trading and the British Business Bank participating. The company says it will use the money to scale manufacturing and open a second West Coast office. Founded in 2021 in Milton, Oxfordshire, it builds on more than a decade of University of Oxford and University of Münster research; it launched a Keysight-validated 32-port all-optical switch in the spring and showed a 64-port version at ECOC in September. The round is meant to fund 128- and 256-port switches, but no date, customer or deployment was disclosed.

  3. Nvidia pledges $250M of compute over five years for UK agentic AI safety research

Nvidia announced on Oct. 13 that it will provide $250 million worth of accelerated computing over five years — roughly $50 million a year — to fund UK research into agentic AI safety and security, delivered through UK-based Nvidia Cloud Partners with infrastructure hosted in Britain. A portion goes to Oxford-led BOLD, UCL-led SOFAIR and Imperial College London, covering secure agents, open-model security and threat mitigation, and drawing on Nvidia's OpenShell runtime and Sentry reference design. Nvidia says provider selection, technical architecture and commercial terms are still to be agreed, and the figure is a valuation rather than a price, with none of it contracted; in the same UK ecosystem announcement it also disclosed planned investments in Boltz, Foresight, Hiverge, Prima Mente and Riverlane, and joined the Earthshot Prize as a Global Alliance Founding Partner.

  4. Oxford, Monash, Bristol teams unveil Oneira, an interactive video world model

Teams from the University of Oxford, Monash University and the University of Bristol (among others) propose Oneira, an interactive video world model that separates "what happens in the world" from "how the picture is rendered": a Coding Agent maintains a World State Table recording each object's semantic label, 3D bounding box and interaction state, an Engine renders that table into a simplified condition video, and a video generation model fills in real appearance and motion detail. The authors also built InteractionBench, with 100 interaction cases and 50 memory cases, and compared Oneira against MiniMax-H3 Ref2VA, LingBot-World-V2, YUME 1.5 and AlayaWorld. They report Oneira leads the strongest baseline by 29, 19 and 29 percentage points on whether an interaction occurs, timing accuracy and correct target object; after the camera leaves and returns, PSNR and SSIM improve by 93% and 83% and state retention rises 18%, with VBench video quality at or near the best.

  5. Google Earth AI model shows promise for public-health forecasting

Google Research reports that its Population Dynamics Foundation Model (PDFM), part of Google Earth AI, can provide plug-in geospatial embeddings for public-health and epidemiological workflows. Partner evaluations covered vaccination, cardiovascular disease, dengue, postpartum depression and cholera, with reported improvements or comparable performance against conventional inputs in several settings.
