  1. Mature-node foundry utilization seen at 91% in Q4 as Q1 2027 prices rise

Market research firm Sigmaintell forecasts that global mature-process foundries will run at an average 91% capacity utilization in the fourth quarter of 2026, with 12-inch and 8-inch mature-node prices set to rise 4% to 8% quarter over quarter in Q1 2027, TechNews reported. The 90nm node shows the steepest gains, up 4% to $1,250 in Q4 and projected to climb another 8% to $1,350 in Q1 2027, while 28nm and 40nm hold at $2,500 and $1,900 in Q4 before an expected 6% and 5% increase respectively. TechNews, citing the analysis, attributes part of the demand to AI infrastructure buildout lifting 55nm and 90nm production of NOR Flash, high-performance MCUs and power management chips, with 8-inch fabs reporting order visibility of about six months.

  2. Singapore Q3 GDP grows 5.4% on AI boom, IMF sees 5% for the year

Singapore's preliminary third-quarter data showed GDP up 5.4% year on year, slower than the 6.2% in the second quarter but still strong, with manufacturing rising 7.5% and construction up 8.8% as data-center building added momentum. The central bank said technology-related industries contributed about 75% of the quarter's overall annual growth. According to the Economic Development Board, roughly 10% of the world's chips and about 20% of semiconductor equipment are made in Singapore, where semiconductors account for about 6% of GDP; Micron, GlobalFoundries and UMC all have production sites there. The IMF expects Singapore to grow 5% this year, second among advanced economies only to Taiwan, while the Monetary Authority of Singapore warned that AI-related demand may ease in the second half of next year and that inflation and high rates could weigh on consumption and investment.

  3. Samsung offers memory as leverage for AMD foundry orders; AMD stays cautious

AMD CEO Lisa Su visited South Korea to secure stable high-bandwidth memory (HBM) supply for its AI accelerators and said she would discuss a broader partnership with Samsung executives. Samsung hopes to use its memory supply as leverage to win foundry production of AMD's advanced logic chips; according to Korean outlet THE ELEC, the two firms signed a three-year, non-binding MOU in March 2026 covering HBM4 and advanced DDR5 supply, joint memory optimization for AI and HPC, evaluation of AMD platforms made at Samsung foundry, and advanced packaging cooperation. Su also confirmed AMD has begun shipping next-generation Instinct MI455 chips with 432GB of HBM4 and Helios AI rack systems, with Samsung currently the main HBM4 supplier for the MI400 series, though AMD warned in its latest annual report that shifting production to a new foundry could bring delays, lower yields or weaker performance.
