- F-22 pilot commands Anduril YFQ-44A Fury drone in flight for first time
The U.S. Air Force and Anduril announced that an F-22 pilot for the first time issued tactical commands in flight to a pre-production YFQ-44A Fury Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA), which then flew maneuvers and carried out simulated combat tasks. TechNews reported that the test took place in early October out of Edwards Air Force Base in California, where the F-22 and Fury rendezvoused and the pilot sent an updated mission plan over a tactical data link for Fury's onboard autonomy software to interpret and execute. Tom's Hardware noted that successful command integration is only the first of several hurdles before the CCA reaches operational status, with the drone's tactical autonomy limits, safe flight control, weapons authorization, behavior under electronic interference, and logistics and deployment procedures still to be tested.
科技新报 · 🔥 28 - WindBorne wins US Air Force contract worth up to $49M for balloon data
WindBorne Systems has secured a US Air Force contract worth up to roughly $49 million under which the military buys atmospheric readings from its global fleet of autonomous weather balloons on demand. The award was made without competitive bidding; the Air Force has so far placed orders worth about $1.7 million and can request data for specific regions and time windows. WindBorne operates about 700 balloons whose measurements are sold to customers and also feed its WeatherMesh 6 deep-learning forecasting model, which the company says outperforms the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts' physics-based model — a claim not independently verified here.
TechCrunch AI · 🔥 3 - Gallatin AI raises $50M Series A for military logistics platform Navigator
Gallatin AI, a developer of military logistics software, announced a $50 million Series A with participation from 8VC, Silent Ventures and several others; the El Segundo, California-based company says it previously raised a $15 million seed round in 2024, bringing total funding to $70 million. Its Navigator platform aggregates supply-chain records from multiple systems into a standardized form, then uses AI to build dashboards, map overlays and forecasts of when supplies will run out. Gallatin says the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force are customers, and that the platform is also available to the Defense Department's commercial logistics partners.
Techmeme · 🔥 0 - CSIS: U.S. federal AI contracts reach $4.1B, over half lack governance clauses
A CSIS review of SAM.gov solicitations and USAspending contract records found that U.S. federal agencies signed 2,255 identifiable AI-related contracts in fiscal years 2019–2025, with cumulative obligated amounts of $4.1 billion; the Department of Defense accounted for about 82.8% of obligations and 63.8% of contracts, and annual obligations reached $1.162 billion in FY2025. Among the 75 AI-related solicitations sampled, 41 (54.7%) contained no confirmed governance clause; where clauses existed they centred on performance measurement — benchmarking appeared in 37% and data rights in 35% — while audit access, red-teaming and incident reporting appeared in just 9%, 5% and 4%, and monitoring and human-oversight clauses each appeared in 5%. On the supply side, 1,250 vendors held contracts, 66.2% of them only one, the top three took 30.4% of net obligations, and Palantir and Scale AI together held under 1% of contracts but about $597 million, roughly 15% of obligations.
