  1. NVIDIA Weighs PTFE for Next-Generation AI Switch Boards

NVIDIA exhibited its latest NVLink switch board at the October OCP summit and is considering PTFE for high-speed signal transmission, PCB industry analysts told TechNews. The reported plans include introducing low-dielectric-loss PTFE into the Rubin Ultra switch board or a next-generation orthogonal midplane to reduce signal attenuation. PTFE’s low dielectric loss could support high-speed PCB design, but its poor compatibility with other materials and difficulty forming multilayer boards require a mixed-material approach; the report says PTFE alone cannot be used to make dozens-of-layers AI server boards.

  2. Taiwan AI hardware stocks diverge after heavy foreign selling

科技新报 reports that Taiwan’s stock market fell 667 points and lost its quarterly trendline as foreign investors sold NT$68.8 billion worth of shares. It says semiconductors, AI-endpoint stocks and PCB names were sold while capital shifted toward biotechnology, healthcare and selected memory, CCL and silicon-intelligence stocks. TSMC’s ADR rose 0.60% despite weakness in US AI technology stocks, with the report identifying the next session’s quarterly-line recovery as the key market question.

  3. AI demand pushes Taiwan PCB output toward NT$1.1 trillion as TPCA Show opens

Taiwan's Printed Circuit Board Association (TPCA) estimates the island's PCB output at home and abroad will reach NT$1,136.5 billion in 2026, up 24.2% year on year and a record high, driven by AI infrastructure demand for high-end substrates, high-layer-count boards and HDI, plus tight high-end materials that are lifting prices. First-half PCB materials output reached NT$271.6 billion, up 38.6%, as glass fiber cloth and copper foil stayed in short supply. TPCA said the squeeze has spread from materials such as Low CTE, Low Dk2 and HVLP4 to CCL, ABF substrates and process equipment and consumables, with some new capacity only arriving between 2027 and 2029 and tightness expected to last at least into 2027. The 2026 TPCA Show runs October 20-22 at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, with Unimicron, Kinsus, Compeq, Wus Printed Circuit, Elite Material, Taiwan Union Technology and others exhibiting.
