  1. AI-coded Starling OpenOffice 0.1.0 arrives with Writer, Sheets and Slides

The Starling project released Starling OpenOffice 0.1.0 on October 14, a suite spanning a word processor (Writer), spreadsheets (Sheets) and presentations (Slides) that runs directly in the browser or as a standalone desktop app for Windows, Linux (DEB/Flatpak) and Apple-silicon Macs, without requiring Starling Desktop first. The project says the suite can open, edit and save DOCX, XLSX and PPTX files, and its own code is released under Apache 2.0 with some underlying components keeping upstream licenses. The report notes this is still an early build and file-format support does not equal full Microsoft Office parity: Windows slideshows stay inside the app window, the macOS Slides font/size menu may crash, and neither the Windows binary (unsigned) nor the Mac app (unnotarized) ships with standard trust signatures.
