AWS adds SOCI indexing for faster SageMaker AI jobs

AWS announced Seekable OCI (SOCI) indexing for Amazon SageMaker AI Training and processing jobs, allowing container images to be lazy-loaded instead of fully downloaded before execution. Users can select pre-indexed AWS Deep Learning Containers or index a custom image, though AWS says benefits vary with image size and startup behavior; its tests found GPU idle time during image pulls fell by up to 90%.
