  1. InclusionAI releases ZwZ2 multimodal model family

InclusionAI released ZwZ2, a Qwen-based model family with 27B, 9B, and 4B variants designed to connect visual evidence across image regions through comparison, aggregation, matching, and multi-step reasoning. The model summary says training uses full images and inference requires no zooming tools. Its EvidenceConnect dataset contains verified multi-region questions constructed from SA-1B images, with answers checked through cross-model agreement and drop-one-region tests. According to InclusionAI, ZwZ2-27B outperformed its base model on all 25 benchmarks across six domains, raising overall accuracy from 55.52 to 60.51.

  2. llama.cpp CUDA PR fuses FFN operations for reported speed gains

llama.cpp pull request #29948 proposes fusing CUDA FFN gate/up matrix multiplications and GLU in MMQ with interleaved gate/up rows. Its llama-bench results report gains of 1.9%–10.7% over master for listed quantizations of Qwen3.8-27B, Qwen3.6-27B, and Llama-3.1-8B on NVIDIA DGX Spark and RTX 5090. Tests used full GPU offload, Flash Attention, a 16,384-token prompt, and five repetitions.

  3. AWS makes SageMaker AI training sessions generally available

AWS announced the general availability of training sessions within Amazon SageMaker AI serverless model customization, letting developers write and coordinate their own post-training loop in Python — including custom loss functions or reward signals — while SageMaker AI handles GPU allocation, distributed execution, fault recovery and checkpoint storage. The launch supports gpt-oss-20b, gemma-4-31B-it, Qwen3.6-27B and Qwen3.8-27B, and AWS released a cookbook with ready-to-run SFT and RL recipes. AWS reports that a rank-32 LoRA adapter for GPT-OSS 20B trained for 50 steps on GSM8K rose from 0.46 to 0.60 training reward and from 40% to 50.5% held-out accuracy, figures the vendor supplied without independent replication.

  4. Taste-Bench: AI agents pick the better long-horizon path only ~60% of the time

Researchers from Microsoft and City University of Hong Kong built Taste-Bench, which tests an agent's "taste" in long-running tasks by freezing a run at a "decision fork," hiding later work and asking a model to choose between two diverging paths. The benchmark has 502 binary questions drawn from thousands of scored agent runs on coding and AI research tasks, including SWE-bench Pro and METR's MALT transcripts. Across 14 models, GPT-5.6 Sol led with 59.7% and GPT-5.5 followed at 59.5%, while average accuracy fell to 21%, near random, when the deciding clue appeared only after extensive later work. The team also distilled a teacher's judgment into a Qwen3.6-27B student, lifting accuracy on unseen tasks from 30% to 47.9% and raising success on 41 held-out SWE-bench Pro tasks from 14.6% to 33.7% when its advice was added to the task context. The benchmark and code are publicly available.

  5. JetBrains' Junie Local adds day-one Nvidia RTX Spark support, up to 55 tokens/sec

JetBrains announced on October 16 that its local AI coding tool Junie Local has day-one support for Nvidia's RTX Spark platform, and that Windows support has moved from experimental to stable. On eligible machines the tool can read code, edit files and run tests; JetBrains says it needs no sign-up or subscription, charges no token fees, imposes no usage quotas and keeps code off the cloud. In initial testing JetBrains measured generation speeds of up to 55 tokens per second on RTX Spark. Requirements include at least 24GB of VRAM on an Ampere-or-newer RTX card (RTX 3090, 4090 and the 32GB 5090 are listed), Windows 11, driver version 581 or later and about 20GB of disk space; the installer checks the GPU and driver, deploys the model and scales context to available VRAM, with a choice of Qwen3.6-27B or a JetBrains-built merged model.

  6. Sakana AI, UC Berkeley unveil MASS self-improvement method

Researchers from Sakana AI and UC Berkeley introduced Multi-Agent Self-Supervision (MASS), a recursive self-improvement method in which a single language model takes turns as task solver, workflow optimizer and evaluator without a stronger teacher model. Using Qwen3.6-27B with Qwen Code over two rounds, the model's win rate against the base model on held-out test tasks rose from 53.9% to 69.9%, and it reached 1.2–1.6 times the base model's score per output token on MLR-Bench, DSBench, ScienceAgentBench and AstaBench. The authors warn that shared blind spots can let the internal evaluator accept flawed or manipulated steps as successes and feed them into the next training cycle, calling this the potential Achilles' heel of recursive self-improvement and urging independent checks and limits on autonomy.
