- AUO cancels Hoya fab sale to Quanta, sells Taichung Phase II to TSMC
AUO terminated the planned NT$19.7 billion sale of its Hoya fab to Quanta after repeated negotiations failed to resolve factory specifications and delivery timing, meaning the estimated NT$13.39 billion disposal gain will not be realized as planned. On the same day, AUO's board approved selling the Taichung Plant Phase II buildings and related facilities to TSMC for NT$38.8 billion, with an estimated disposal gain of NT$18.5 billion. AUO said the terminated Quanta transaction would not affect its financial operations, while the Taichung sale will be paid in installments and its accounting recognition remains dependent on closing progress.
科技新报 · 🔥 0 - HP, Asus and Acer reportedly shift some PC production back to China
Nikkei Asia reported that HP, Asus and Acer are moving some PC production from Thailand and Vietnam back to China as AI demand strains memory and storage supply and raises component costs; Dell is considering a similar move. The brands are reportedly working with Chinese contract manufacturers including Luxshare, Huaqin Technology and Longcheer Technology, while traditional Taiwanese assemblers such as Foxconn, Quanta, Compal and Inventec focus on higher-margin AI data-center servers. Omdia data cited in the reports put the bill of materials for mainstream PCs priced at $500 to $699 at $435 in the first quarter of 2025 and $699 in the third quarter of 2026. TrendForce expects notebooks made outside China to account for about 21% this year, down from roughly 24% in 2025. HP, Dell and Asus did not respond to requests for comment, while Acer said it would adjust its supply chain dynamically.
