Opera previews WebAI for local AI in Opera One

Opera introduced WebAI, a proposed web standard that lets websites and browser extensions use AI models running on the user’s device. The company says the implementation is model-agnostic, supports open-weight systems such as Google Gemma, and can access Apple’s on-device foundation model on Macs. The feature is an opt-in early preview in Opera One, with Opera GX and Opera Neon slated to receive it later, while local performance will depend on device hardware.
