  1. China's commerce ministry says it will help build international AI trade rules

Vice Minister of Commerce Jiang Chenghua told a State Council Information Office press conference that during the 15th Five-Year Plan period China will keep supporting the WTO-centered trading system, deepen bilateral and multilateral economic cooperation, and "actively lead" rule-making in emerging areas such as digital and green development. According to Securities Times, as carried by 36Kr, he said China will work to build an open AI ecosystem and, together with other countries, jointly construct international AI economic and trade rules. Jiang also said the digital divide, development deficits and the over-securitization of issues have become worldwide problems.

  2. Nine Chinese departments back AI products and embodied intelligence in commerce opinion

China's Ministry of Commerce and eight other departments issued an opinion on accelerating "technology-driven commerce" on October 19, calling for higher application of AI, big data, IoT, cloud computing, blockchain, digital twins and embodied intelligence across trade. It calls for richer smart product supply — smartphones, computers, home appliances, wearables and robots — and encourages smart products built on secure, reliable open-source operating systems. The opinion also targets specialised commercial agents for smart shopping guides, operations and logistics, pushes embodied intelligence into home services and commercial logistics, and proposes tiered governance of commercial agents with regulatory sandbox pilots.
