- Apple's smart home push: a non-recording AI camera and HomePad hub
Apple teased an Oct. 13 event with the phrase "welcome home," hinting at new smart home hardware and a push to make Siri AI the "brain" of the home. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple is developing a J450 smart home camera — a small metal cylinder that senses its surroundings at very low frame rates and uses AI to turn people's and pets' activity into text descriptions rather than saving or transmitting video; it would pair with a J490 HomePad smart display hub. The article argues this split between sensing and recording echoes Apple Watch's Siri Recap and Private Cloud Compute, positioning privacy as Apple's edge in AI hardware.
