   Google's WeatherNext aided NHC's Hurricane Isaias forecasts

   Google DeepMind reposted Peter Battaglia's account saying that Hurricane Isaias made landfall in the Florida Panhandle last week and that the WeatherNext model assisted the National Hurricane Center's forecasters. Citing initial evaluations, the post says WeatherNext was the most accurate model on the storm's track, kept the projected landfall location within about 60 km up to three days ahead, and early on predicted intensification to a major hurricane. It also cites a Nature paper co-authored with NHC forecasters that evaluated more than 200 global tropical cyclones and found about one additional day of lead time for track and intensity, while noting performance varies from storm to storm.
