   China's MIIT pledges self-driving standards push and cautious pilot expansion

   At the opening of the 2026 World Intelligent Connected Vehicle Conference in Beijing on 21 October, Vice Minister Xin Guobin said MIIT will support leading enterprises in forming innovation consortia around key areas including energy and powertrain, intelligent chassis and intelligent connectivity, and will carry out publicity and implementation of the mandatory national standard for automated driving while accelerating standards work on automated parking, operation monitoring and data security. He added that the ministry will prudently advance pilot programmes for intelligent connected vehicle market access and road use and speed up large-scale demonstrations of key automated-driving scenarios. Guo Shougang, director of MIIT's Equipment Industry Department I, said China has issued national standards covering combined driving assistance systems, automated driving systems, automatic emergency braking and whole-vehicle cybersecurity, and that by the end of August about 61 million passenger cars in China carried combined driving assistance, of which roughly 15 million had navigate-on-autopilot assistance.
